GRASS CLIPPINGS WILL NOT be collected by the Borough and SHALL NOT be placed at the curb at any time. The Borough encourages you to participate in the Grass - Cut it and Leave it Program. By doing this you will:
  • Save Time - You don't have to empty your mower's bag, no raking, no bagging, no taking clippings to the street.
  • Use less water - Lawn clippings contain water and leaving those clippings on the lawn retains moisture, therefore you water less, or not al all.
  • Use less fertilizer - Lawn clippings contain nutrients. Leaving them on the lawn fertilizes your lawn, therefore you use less fertilizer or none at all.
We advise that you MOW HIGH! Leaving the grass slightly taller saves moisture and shades out weeds. A height of 2.5 to 3.5 inches is ideal for NJ. Shorter grass will require more water and more fertilizer.

What about thatch? Thatch is not dead cut grass. Thatch is dead roots and dead grass stems. Watering and fertilizing causes the growth that accumulates thatch.
